Vipreet Raja Yoga: Success Through Adversity

The 6th, 8th and 12th houses are the dusthanas, houses of difficulty: conflict and illness (6th), sudden upheaval (8th) and loss (12th). Vipreet Raja Yoga, the "reversed" raja yoga, forms when the lords of these houses fall into each other's houses. The difficulties then cancel each other, and the person rises through, or because of, adversity.

The three forms

Classical texts name a form for each house lord:

Yoga Formed when Said to give
Harsha the 6th lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house Health, happiness, victory over enemies
Sarala the 8th lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house Longevity, fearlessness, resilience, prosperity
Vimala the 12th lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house Thrift, independence, good conduct, wealth

A wider definition includes conjunctions or exchanges among the three lords in these houses.

How it works

A malefic in a malefic place destroys the malefic house's significations. When the lord of the house of enemies sits in the house of loss, for example, the enemies lose. The person often benefits from situations that harm others: a crisis that becomes an opportunity, a competitor's fall, an inheritance, or success in turnaround, research, medicine, insurance or risk management.

Conditions

  • The dusthana lords should not be strong in other ways (for example, not also lords of the Lagna); a Vipreet yoga is about weak lords in weak places.
  • The Lagna lord should be strong, so the person can actually take advantage of the reversal.
  • Not under the influence of benefic kendra or trikona lords, which change the nature of the combination.

Timing

Like other yogas, it delivers in the dashas of the planets that form it, often after an initial difficult phase, which is the "reversal" in action.
